2012 Relentless Success Story: Carrie M.

Carrie Relentless Success Story

Carrie McDonald CrossFit Central Success StoryI joined Relentless Boot Camp because I was ready for something new. I have always been involved in athletics and working out but was really tired of doing the same things over and over again. It was time to switch it up a bit and step out of my comfort zone.

Prior to Relentless, working out was something I HAD to do. I put in a lot of hours on the trail and in the gym but never really liked what I saw in the mirror or appreciated what my body could do. I lifted weights in the gym, but  had no clue how to use a kettlebell, or what strength I actually had or how much stronger I could be.

I started out with a 25 lb kettlebell in boot camp and gradually got used to the movements and more comfortable with the weight. Coach Megan pushed me to increase the weight to 35lbs which has been more of a challenge but has done wonders for my strength and endurance.

Before becoming a part of the Relentless Boot Camp community, I usually shyed away from most competitions. As I developed more friendships in boot camp, I got more involved in the competitions within the group. This year, I signed up for the Garage Gym Throw Down, Iron Belle, and We the People.

Since joining Relentless Boot Camp, I feel like I’ve come into my own. There’s been a huge mental transformation. I’ve faced obstacles and challenges this year that would have done the old me in, but just like in boot camp, I pushed through the pain, with really incredible people there, cheering me on and holding me up when I needed it—and I’m better because of it. This year I qualified for the Boston Marathon after joining boot camp and shaved 13 minutes off of my marathon PR!

I lost 5% body fat, 5 inches in my waist, hips, chest, & shoulders all while getting stronger!

I’m a different physical version of myself too. I’m stronger and faster. My body can do so much more than I ever thought possible. I’ve got muscle and curves that I’m proud of. And, I love running more than I ever have.

Relentless Boot Camp has helped me become a better version of myself. I’m so proud of the person I am now and of what my body can do. It’s powerful, resilient, and tough. No more looking in the mirror and frowning. This is the body I’ve been given and have worked hard for. I see what it can do now and am thankful for the time I have to take care of it and make it stronger.
