My Twelve Commandments

I believe that as humans, we are always trying to better ourselves….if not, then we should be. Whether it be in career, personal growth, relationships, education, health, etc., we are constantly striving to be better humans and just be better at life in general. There is no wrong or right way to achieve this “greater good”. It will and it should look different to all of us. I think as long as you have a plan, a purpose and accountability, how you choose to better yourself is solely up to you.

Something I’ve decided to do to help in my journey is to come up with my “Twelve Commandments”. I am stealing this idea from The Happiness Project written by Gretchen Rubin. The “Twelve Commandments” will act as a guide for the way that I want to be…the way that I want to live. As long as I keep these “Twelve Commandments” in mind when making decisions or doing daily tasks/interactions, then I will be living a life of authenticity. That is what I want for myself. That is what will make me a better, happier person.

“My Twelve Commandments” (in no particular order)

  1. Be a Better Listener
  2. Praise People and Acknowledge Their Efforts
  3. My Body Knows Best…listen to it
  4. Don’t Be Complacent
  5. Don’t Be Quick to Judge
  6. Smile More
  7. Practice What I Preach
  8. Trust My Intuition
  9. Respect
  10. LEARN ALL THE THINGS aka Be Curious
  11. Ask For Help When Needed…it’s ok, really!
  12. Gratitude

I will have “My Twelve Commandments” with me/near me at all times. I will make sure that I have them visible to me at least once a day. I have shared them with anyone who has taken the time to read this, therefore, I am now held accountable and ask that y’all hold me accountable.
