“I remember taking CrossFit Elements with Big Mike and he told me there’s no reason that I couldn’t be the same dress size I was as a young woman. I was skeptical. I had been a size 12 – 14 for many years, so that idea seemed like a distant dream. Now I’m a size 6!”
Prior to Joining CrossFit Central:
Prior to joining CrossFit Central I was not in a very good place emotionally, physically or mentally. My husband and I had separated and with an impending divorce, my self esteem was at an all time low.
I was diagnosed with Osteoporosis and my doctor advised me to lift weights. I began weight training at a gym but the workouts became monotonous and boring. I was looking for a challenge, that’s when a friend recommended I try CrossFit Central.
Since Joining CrossFit Central:
When I realized that my marriage was ending I was despondent. I wanted to stay in bed all day. Big Mike knew what was going on with me and he sent me a text. The text said – “Take control of the things that you can control“. Later that week he called me and asked me to come and workout with him the next morning. It took every bit of my willpower to get out of bed. He said if I gave him 2 weeks that I would feel better. He was right. The workouts at CrossFit Central keep me sane and Big Mike continues to keep me on a positive track as I go through one of the most difficult times of my life. That’s compassion.
I got up each morning to take class with Chris Hartwell and private sessions with Michael Gregory. They were so encouraging and pushed me to do my best. As I grew stronger I gained confidence and my emotional and mental state grew more positive. My friends noticed the physical difference and an inner strength.
Since joining CrossFit Central I have gone from a size 12 to a size 6 and an XLarge to a Small.
My body changed in ways that I never thought possible. But it’s not about the workout, it’s not about the gym….it’s all about the people. The coaches care about your success.
My endurance and stamina also increased. I used to do intervals of walking and jogging around the Town Lake trail. I never felt I had the stamina to jog the Mopac Bridge / Lamar Bridge loop. After doing CrossFit for a few months I realized that I didn’t have to do those intervals anymore – I was strong enough to jog the entire distance. I was overjoyed! That experience made me set a goal of doing a ½ marathon.
When I joined CrossFit Central my goals were to lose weight and gain strength. I feel that I have achieved my goals. I’m 54 years old – It is important for me to maintain a good quality of life as I age. I want to build muscle, maintain flexibility and agility and run a half marathon.
