Prior to CrossFit Central my daily workouts had become monotonous and I wasn’t seeing results. I also had participated in numerous sprint distance triathlons and had seen no improvement in my finish time. In February 2009, I heard about CrossFit at a federal training academy I attended as a United States Probation Officer. The training focused on functional fitness and training physically in relation to maintaining safety as a law enforcement officer. instructors utilized CrossFit to increase agility, strength, and speed. When I returned to Austin, I immediately searched for an Austin CrossFit facility, and I landed in the Relentless 5:30pm Deep Eddy Boot Camp.
I am consistently challenged and encouraged to accomplish more than I think I can at each Relentless Boot Camp. In high school I was always the “water girl” with little interest or ability to run, much less sprint. Through the Relentless Boot Camp & CrossFit Central Endurance training I am able to run farther and sprint faster than ever before. I have increased energy, agility, and strength. After taking on CFE training I decreased my time for sprint triathlon distance by 10 minutes. Most recently, I was out of running for a month after a knee injury. I returned and was able to pick up and run 5 miles easily on my first run.
I am a defensive tactics instructor for our officers, which entails kicking, punching and ground work. It takes significant stamina to maintain good form for even 3 minutes (the average time for an altercation). The endurance I have gained through CrossFit Central has allowed me to perform tactics without getting out of breath and becoming ineffective. As a U.S.Probation Officer I supervise federal offenders upon their release from prison and conduct related investigations – I now have more confidence and a better presence when conducting these home visits.
Lost 15lbs, 7% body fat & 3 Dress Sizes
CrossFit Central has given me a new mindset in all areas – physical and mental strength and confidence. I have had to purchase an entirely new wardrobe and for the first time, got rid of my “fat” clothes. In the past when I lost weight I would keep the fat clothes in the back of my closet to return to again. This time I purged my closet of them due to the knowledge that this is a permanent lifestyle change that I cannot imagine living without.
I keep a picture of the old me (see above) in my wallet, this serves as a reminder of how much better it feels to be where I am now. I am so much leaner and more defined then I thought possible, despite having had two children. I truly enjoy the food I eat and have great fun coming up with new recipes for myself and my family to support my progress. I am up for any challenge put before me – climbing, skiing, boxing – and have great fun with the new experiences this offers.
I continue to see improvements and maintain an ever increasing amount of passion and enjoyment for what CrossFit Central has to offer. The CrossFit Central coaches live the life they teach, are always learning more to share with members, and strive to help others. As a wife and working mother, the fact that I don’t have to spend hours in a gym are an additional plus. What’s next? I turn 40 next year and I want to take on a half Ironman!
